Coastal Protection Systems

Coastal Protection Systems

Location: Salalah, Oman
Category: Coastal

The Coastal Protection – Salalah project is a shoreline protection initiative designed to strengthen and safeguard vulnerable coastal areas against wave action, erosion, and the long-term effects of marine conditions.

Executed by CAHIT TRAD & CONTR – AL TAJAWAB JV for the Royal Court of Estate, the project involves the construction of a durable coastal protection system using carefully engineered layers of rock armour, under--layer materials, geo-textiles, and engineered sand and quarry fill.

The works require controlled excavation, material placement, grading, and compaction to establish a stable coastal profile and provide effective protection against coastal erosion and wave forces. The project demonstrates Cahit’s capability in delivering specialized marine, coastal, earthworks, and infrastructure construction in demanding environments.

Project Significance

The Coastal Protection – Salalah project contributes to the long-term resilience of the coastline by establishing a robust engineered protection system capable of withstanding marine exposure and reducing the risk of coastal erosion.

Through the combination of rock armour, under-layer systems, geo-textiles, sand excavation, and quarry filling, the project provides a structured and durable approach to shoreline protection.

The project highlights Cahit Trading & Contracting LLC’s experience in specialized coastal construction and its ability to undertake technically demanding works while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, environmental responsibility, and project execution.

Scope of Work

Supply, placement, and positioning of graded rock armour along designated coastal protection areas. The armour layer provides the primary defence against wave impact, erosion, and coastal forces.

Under-layer Construction

Installation of properly graded under-layer material beneath the rock armour to provide structural stability, distribute loads, and prevent the migration of underlying materials.

Geo-textile Installation

Supply and installation of geo-textile material as part of the coastal protection system. The geo-textile layer assists with filtration, separation, and soil stability while reducing the movement of fine materials through the protection structure.

Sand Excavation

Controlled excavation of sand from designated areas in accordance with project requirements, including handling and preparation of excavated material.

Quarry Filling

Placement and grading of suitable quarry material to achieve the required coastal formation, levels, and structural profile. Filling activities include controlled spreading, grading, and compaction where required.
